You cannot read weight off the outside of a box or a sack, and a loaded one can cut a tire, damage a rim, wedge between duals, or tear out brake and electrical lines. Because you cannot rule that out, the object earns an early and unhurried avoidance rather than a last-second one.
Judging an object's danger by how light it looks. That assumption is what turns a routine avoidance into a blown steer tire, and it is also why drivers leave the decision until swerving is the only option left.
